Nathan Honeycutt for City Council, District 2
As a father, local business owner, and architect, Nathan understands what makes a community thrive. He believes that the future of Knoxville is about creating a city where smart growth meets local values. As City Council member for the 2nd District, Nathan will help build a Knoxville where families, businesses, and future generations can succeed and grow.
Building Great Communities Together
Nathan Honeycutt grew up on a small horse farm here in East Tennessee where his early experiences shaped his future. In middle school, his father founded the local chapter of Habitat for Humanity, and Nathan worked alongside his family to build over a dozen homes for families in need. This hands-on experience sparked his passion for design, construction, and community.
After high school, Nathan attended the University of Tennessee's School of Architecture, graduating with top honors. During his time at UT, he witnessed the football team win the national championship and developed a passion for Tennessee Sports. Nathan then moved to Atlanta, where he worked for one of the largest architecture firms in the South. His career took him around the world, with projects in Dubai, and Beijing, where he gained a deep appreciation for diverse cultures.
In Atlanta, Nathan met his wife, Amy, who was a teacher at a Head Start School for children. They married and had two children, Hudson and Clara. In 2012, the family moved back to Knoxville in order to focus on family. They chose to raise their family in Bearden because of the walkability, parks, and schools.
Nathan is now a Principal and owner of McCarty Holsaple McCarty (MHM), where he and his firm have worked on prominent local landmarks, including Neyland Stadium, The Tennessean Hotel, Tennessee Theatre, and the McGee Tyson Airport. With a special focus on housing and affordability, Nathan has renovated or built over 3,000 mixed-income housing units. He is also passionate about sustainability and historic renovation and is President of a development company transforming a one hundred year old building into Knoxville’s first WELL and Net Zero certified mixed-use workspace.
Amy is a dedicated preschool teacher at Sequoyah Hills Early Enrichment Program (SHEEP) and serves on the Kingston Pike Sequoyah Hills Association Board (KPSHA). Their children, Hudson and Clara, are both in high school—Hudson participates in JROTC and theater, while Clara enjoys nursing classes and plays lacrosse. The Honeycutts also have two small dogs, Harry and Louie.
Nathan and Amy are active volunteers, supporting organizations like the ETN Community Design Center, Knox Heritage, the ETN History Center, and The American Heart Association. Nathan is now running for City Council, believing that Knoxville is on the cusp of significant growth and, with the right leadership, can become an even better place for families in the future.
Nathan’s vision is rooted in progress and opportunity, but always with respect for the unique spirit of our community. He’ll work to support local businesses, promote housing options, and encourage responsible development that maintains the character of our neighborhoods. He knows that our children and grandchildren deserve a place that’s not only great today, but even better tomorrow. Nathan is ready to lead Knoxville into a bright future—one where all residents can thrive, and our city remains a place we are all proud to call home.
